Sustainability

Sustainability is one of our core values

Here's what we are doing to help the planet:

  • Earth-friendly packaging
  • All products are OEKO-TEX certified
  • Our Duvets contain Global Recycle Standard Certificated Recycled Down Alternative rPET.
  • Our high-quality, durable linens lead to longer product life cycles and waste reduction.
  • We strive to keep our products out of landfills by utilizing and promoting programs to reuse, repurpose, and recycle used linens.

What is OEKO-TEX certified?

All FIX linens are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD Certified- a benchmark of textile safety. This means that our linens are tested for harmful chemicals to safeguard the health of consumers and the planet at every stage of production.

“OEKO-TEX® standards enable everyone to make responsible decisions and protect natural resources. Driven by sustainability and a dedication to transparency, our work is grounded in proven science”. (OEKO-TEX.com)

What is rPET?

FIx Linens’ decision to use rPET for their alternative down duvet fill was one centered around sustainability and environment conservation. rPET is recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic that is most commonly used to make plastic bottles and containers. Using modern recycling techniques, these products can be transformed into a lofty microfiber fill that has the same lux feel and natural insulating properties as goose down. Fix Linens’ use of recycled PET helps contribute to a lower global carbon footprint and decreased energy usage. In addition, the use of rPET creates a consumer loop where, post-extraction, valuable natural resources are kept in circulation and out of landfills and oceans.

The rPET from one duvet keeps the equivalent of 30 plastic water bottles out of landfills and oceans.

What does it mean to be Global Standard Certified?

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) was developed to promote and verify the use of recycled materials in the textile industry. A Global Standard Certification communicates to the consumer that products are not only made with a minimum of 20% recycled material but the production of this material is done in an environmentally conscious and ethical way. In order for a product to obtain the GRS certification, they must ensure the following:

  • Product contains at least 20% recycled material
  • Ethical sourcing that prevents destructive environmental practices
  • Workers are treated fairly according to internationally recognized (ILO) labor standards

“The standard supports companies looking to verify the recycled content of their products as well as responsible social, environmental, and chemical practices in the production of these products.” (SCS Global Services).

Partnerships that Preserve and Conserve

According to SMART, Secondary Materials and Recycled Textiles Association, 95% of used textiles can be recycled, yet 85% end up in landfills. At FIX Linens, all returns not fit for redistribution are donated for reuse, repurpose, or recycle. Want to be part of the Fix? We encourage all our hosts to partner with a local or national agency or organization to recycle their used linens and help complete the “consumer loop”.
