Top 3 Things to Consider When Shopping for Airbnb Bedding - FIX LINENS

Top 3 Things to Consider When Shopping for Airbnb Bedding

Shopping for sheets can be an overwhelming process for any consumer, but as a short-term rental host, this process can be daunting at best. Since the average Airbnb requires two to three sets of sheets per bed, making the wrong move on the sheet front can result in an expensive mistake. A simple search for the best sheets can send even the most savvy property owner down a rabbit hole of possibilities that can overwhelm and intimidate. But there's hope. During our quest to create the perfect bedding for rental hosts, we did our homework and found that there is one fabric that was hands down the best choice for short-term rental properties.

Cotton, A Favorite Among Kings & Pharaohs

As early as 3,000 BC, cotton has been a choice fabric. Before there were man-made fabrics like mico-fiber any polyester; there was cotton. Cotton has endured for good reason. With its many attributes, cotton makes the perfect fabric for bedding. It’s breathability, durability, and sustainability make cotton bedding and STR rentals a perfect combo.

1. Breathability

It might surprise you, but the breathability of a fabric is more than just a feeling; it’s a SCIENCE! Fabric breathability is determined by something called MVTR- moisture vapor transmission rate. Really smart scientists define this as the speed at which moisture and heat move from the fabric and into the air. Breathable fabrics, like cotton, are those that have a high MTVR- allowing air to flow freely through the fabric. This makes cotton the ideal fabric for bedding as it is comfortable in all types of climates. The bottom line; bed linens made of cotton will contribute to a better night’s sleep as it will keep your guests cool on summer nights and warm and cozy in the winter.

2. Durability

This is a feature that is vastly important in the realm of short-term rentals.  Alisha Arnold , STR aficionado and blogger, recommends durable bed linens of high quality that will endure being washed 4-8 times a month (the average for a typical rental property). As one of the strongest natural fibers, cotton holds up to the test. Unlike other fabrics, cotton actually gets stronger when it is wet- making a trip to the washing machine a walk in the park for cotton bedding. In addition, both our FIX Linens sheet system and triple zip duvet covers use only “long staple” cotton; a cotton which has extra long fibers. This type of cotton can be woven into fine, strong yarns, resulting in a softer, more durable duvet covers and sheet set. Fabrics made of long-staple cotton fray less, pill less, wrinkle less, and even fade less. How does that benefit the STR host? Long staple cotton bed linens stand the test of time and need to be replaced less often.

3. Sustainability

To achieve sustainability, a product is expected to “play nice” with the environment and the life within it. Since cotton is a natural fiber, it creates a human-kind fabric by default. Cotton is naturally hypoallergenic, which means it is non-irritating to even the most sensitive skin. In addition, a sateen weave, like that of FIX Linens’ duvets and sheets sets, not only contributes to a softer, more luxurious look and feel that wrinkles less but also resists mildew- which is a plus when considering guests who may be allergen sensitive. To go the extra mile, All FIX products are OEKO-TEX certified and tested for harmful chemicals to safeguard the health of consumers and the planet at every stage of production. By using cotton bedding, you don’t just make the best choice for your guests, you make the best choice for the planet.
